Flames A Roaring Success After 10 Years and Now It's Expanding
Tuesday, December 9th, 2014

FIREPLACE specialist Flames is celebrating its 10th year in business by enjoying a roaring trade in 2014 ‐ with demand for its products and expertise higher than ever as winter closes in.

Opened in 2004 by brothers-in-law Andy Blakeston and Pete Brown, the company has doubled in size since, now boasting one of the largest showrooms in the north of England.

For the Hull-born business partners, it is a far cry from the early days after deciding to go it alone and run their own company.

But having seen sales 10-per-cent up year-on-year ahead of peak winter trading, they are delighted with the company's continuing success.

"The 10 years in business has gone very quickly, but in that time we believe we have firmly established ourselves as the true specialists in this area, and that is evident to anyone who visits our Hull showroom and talks to our knowledgeable staff," said Mr Blakeston.

"For our sales to be up 10 per cent year-on-year ahead of the peak period is better than we could have hoped for, but we strongly believe it is due to the quality of our products, and the service we give on each job, which has helped us grow.

Moving with the times has been key to Flames' success. The industry has changed massively over the past five years, as fuel hikes have seen customers seek alternative ways to heat their homes.

It has brought a massive demand for wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves, and a need for companies such as Flames to be much more than fireplace sellers.

"We don't just sell people a new fire, we do so much more, but we've had to learn and adapt as time has gone on. Customers quite rightly want expertise and advice on energy efficiency," added Mr Blakeston.

"Wood-burning stoves are a major part of the business now, and they account for a large percentage of sales, but we've also seen the manufacturers of gas stoves raise their game with efficiency levels now at around 85 per cent. It is the key selling point for customers."

Providing a home survey for all customers to assess their needs, Flames gives that expert advice and then sees the entire project through, from the sale to full installation and subsequent safety checks.

"We quickly realised from our early days that customer service was key, and having our own engineers ensures we stay in control of the quality of fitting, and operation of our products, throughout," said Mr Blakeston.

"Because we have our own team of fully-registered Gas Safety engineers, customers know they can trust us and that our work will be of the highest standard, and I can confidently say that our engineers are the best in Yorkshire.

"It enables us to control both the quality of workmanship and costs, meaning our customers are guaranteed an excellent standard of work at a very reasonable cost."

Now boasting over 100 fires and fireplaces in its Anlaby Road showroom in Hull, Mr Blakeston is confident Flames offers both the best deals, and customer service, around.

"As we are long-established, we have all of the UK's leading suppliers behind us, such as Stovax, Gazco, Villager, Paramount and Paragon amongst others," he said.

"Our long-standing relationships with these suppliers ensures we can sell their most innovative and efficient products at prices our customers will warm to."
